Research

The Library is open to the public. If major assistance is necessary a donation is appreciated. Obituary files, family files and publications are open for research. Atlases, Histories, Tax Records, Cemetery Stone Inscriptions, Birth Records and back issues of “Shelby County Ancestors” are available. Copying is $0.25 cents per sheet.

E-mail answers are very limited.

Requests should be mailed accompanied with as much information available and $5.00 which covers reasonable research and postage. Extended research requires additional funds for time and postage. Micro-film research from newspapers is done only if exact dates (or at least month and year) are supplied.

Membership to the society is not necessary, however, appreciated and enjoyed. Information supplied by researchers is filed in family folders.
Volunteers do not attempt to do courthouse requests.

Since our publications are indexed we may furnish by e-mail the page numbers, volumes, dates and etc. whereby the researchers may write the Shelby County Clerk or Circuit Clerk at the Shelby County Courthouse. These offices also request names, exact dates, volumes, page numbers, etc. and the on-going fees.
